Deepawali..Celebrations..and Nonsense

Deepawali.. Festival of lights.. Festival of sweets..
Not for me this year though..
I guess for the love of the calculations I sacrificed whatever little pleasure I got from this festival.. they say you sacrifice in love..What ever...
What a big deal in missing the deepawali..
I mean Ï had missed it the year before ...
But, This year is proving a little more difficult..
I mean there is no sign of deepawali here
No road side vendor selling stuff like sugarcane, crackers, and what not...
Every thing seems normal..
No holiday fever..
Normal... Things are so normal and you see a message from a friend wishing you a happy, prosperous deepawali.. its creates that nostalgic feeling even to a point of irritation , and makes you thing, what am i doing here???? ( Calculations....)

Enough of senti...
Why did I add nonsense in the title of the blog...
Just to make it more catchy...A little prank to make the article read...

Searching for a Flat..Ramblings...

All my previous blogs were related to some kind of philosophies, or mostly a social topic.
Today I decide to make detour to some different area...
Searching for a flat.. I mean what kind of topic is this..
This is what has kept me busy in the last two weeks..
And yes, it has lot of calculations..
And calculations as I had mentioned in my previous blog, i like them..

how difficult the search can get??
It has got pretty difficult for me..
First you have to decide on the area .. Here it is Abu hallifa..
You have to go each and every building in the area and ask " Phi shaaka".. It means , is there a vacant house.. My friend advised me that before asking anything you have to wish "salam malekum"...Its the way of greeting here..And if you fail to do so, the other person might feel offended..
I had atleast seen 50-70 buildings.. I havent got the flat, but I had learnt the above two things...

I was not able to find the flat in Abu hallifa.. But I saw a very decent flat in the adjacent area called Managaf. And one more weired thing here.. If you are getting a flat in an old building, you have to purchase every item of the flat, if the owner is vacating and moving to other country.
Today, evening I will be going to meet the owner of one flat. And have to negotiate on the price..
See.. Calculation...

And its only calculation, but its also about taking the final decision..
whether the area is good..
Whether the neighbours are good..
whether the maintenance of the bldg is good..
Is the price of the flat right...
Is the price of the items in the flat right..
hufff...

Right now, its just boggling my mind...

And if you have come here reading, you might have guessed why the blog is titled Random thoughts...

One final word though, its you who have to take a final call...
All the best for me.....

Calculations..

They are really popular in this part of the world.. This is very funny part though..
Most important person in the building is watchman..
Your income and your education has no realtion what so ever..
More car than the people around.. ( this is my guess...)

Anyways, they say life is not fair.. and i say who expects it to be...

Calculations are really popular especially for the people coming from South Asia.
It goes like this...
Your income X..
Your expenditure E
Savings S = X - E... simple maths huh...
It doesnt stop here..

Show has just begun...
Savings in INR = s*140..no its 142 today... yaaar my friend transferred it in 145... This are really bad time, 160 was on the cards a year ago.... this never stops...
so S is multiplied to all the above exchange rates...
So, if I had transferred it in 140.2345 last month nad now transferring it in 144.4567..
Huumm, i have lost th difference = D1-D2...

Now Expenditure components...
Have to go to a place E1 ..
That means... E1*142....or what ever the rate is....
Have to buy some thing new... E2*...

Some time i think calculation are more popular than SRK or even Aish in this part of the world.
They are repeated throught day in and day out...

Funny huh....

what about the desi pani puri , vada pav that you are missing..
What abt the peace of the mind??
What abt the capability of beinbg able to shout back to another people and not worrying whether he is a local people or not..???
What abt msing dear ones at home???

What multipication/ exchange factor are we going to use for this????

Huuummm...

Nahaahaa...

I am more happy making a moolah here.....
And I love calculations......

Are Howard successful???

Are Howard like people successful in real life???
In the book Howard goes through the tremendous pressure and unbeliveable sufferings. But he refused to do the things (buildings) which doesnt suit his likings. He beleived what he was doing. He is immensly talented. If he wanted he could have been really rich and famous by giving people what he wanted. But he had a different view of looking at things. He is one of those where people change to suit his likings.
I found this charcter really strong as well as influential. But the point here is if you are following him and you are really not following him.. A little confusing huh... He is a person who create things, but doesnt copy them. So, if one is following him, he is very unlike Howard..
But the real question is are such type of people successful??
What I got from the book is that depends a lot on what you define as success...
Really what are the measures for it???
And they might differ from person to person..
Sad part is most of us have a common measure as Money.
And success is directly related to it.
But if one is saying happiness, we are coming to a territory where we cant define things then...
In the book, Peter has fame. He has money. But he is unhappy. Howard struggles. Lives in poverty. But he is happy in what ever little amount of work he is getting. Because he does that work for his own pleasure.

One of the very profund situation that I came across in the book is:

Howard is working on a building site. He remains there, right from the morning till the late evening. One late afternoon he sees, that there is rush of vehicle passing through the near by highway. He thinks that people work for week, or month and after that to escape from that or to have a break they go out for vacation. Basically they earn some part of their income for this vacation. And why want vacation or a break is to move away from their work. why???? Most common reason they dont like it. They dont enjoy it. Why not do something that will take you out from this vicious cirlce. Why dont do, which is just for oneself, and not for othere? Why noy do something that will please onself??

So, Are Howards successful???

The Philosophy...

One part of the book tries to explain one thing that is applicable at every moment of our life..
Whether we should do things as people want it or as your mind says it.
Former one is to please the people, to get their appreciation and the later is for yourself.
It pleases only you. You do it because you want to do it and not because some one else will like it.
Now there is a catch in this... This happens in the story... Peter Keating is the person who does thing only to please others. He has no idea which is original by him. Howard does thing for himself. Or as he see things. In first half of the book Peter becomes a very rich person. Where as Howard is thrown out of college, since he refuse to listen to professor and do things as he likes it. ( college here is of architecture..)..
Now if there happens to be any revolution in architecture, it cannot be by Peter Keating, sice he has no original idea. It has to be person like Howard.
But then are Howard successful in real life????
