Most people have a habit to compare themselves with the people with whom they have studied in the latest college. My school friends who didn’t leave the city still compare themselves with other school friends. My college mates have changed their bench marks to other college mates. I was talking to one my friend who has studied in IIM A. For him the bench mark as changed. He compares himself with his other IIMA batch mates.
Now, if that is the case what happens if one joins the best college and other joins some less recognized colleges. Benchmarks in both these cases would be different. Person who had join less recognized college may perform better than his peers because he had the potential to join the better college. Since he is performing better, his self confidence increases. He is more positive towards the outlook of the life.
Now, consider a person who has just managed to enter the best college. Even if he performing better, better than what he could have performed if he was in an average college, he is still an average student in the best college. Now, what happens to his self confidence. There are fairly good chances that he starts doubting himself, his capabilities.
And what I have learnt from my experiences in the job is that what matters is your self confidence which gets reflected in your communication. And thus, the person from not so good college might perform better that the person from best college.
So, I guess when you get a good college be happy that you have made it and if you don’t get a good college, perform better and eventually you will be happy.
